Assignment 8 – Your Inner Eggleston

Set 1: Looking Left and Up

Set 2: Looking Down

Set 3: Looking Right and Up

Reflection

This was probably the most difficult exercise so far. I had trouble seeing interesting photos. My second walk through was in the evening so I lost a lot of light while walking. By the last time I walked through, I think I was seeing a but better and took more time to make my shots. I lightly edited in lightroom, mostly for white balance and vibrancy, but I saw there were a few shots I still would have liked to crop, given the chance.

I enjoyed being able to focus on the mundane and find intricacy beauty in simple items. I found myself using a lot of rule of thirds to try and make my photos interesting. I also found it a bit tasking to take photos in front of people’s homes, worried that they would confront me.

The exercise was helpful in allowing me see things I would otherwise have noticed. I hope to use this process to shoot when I am in new places where I have time to observe and build a rapport.
